Re-Opening Safely August 18th!

Online booking is now available.

Please read re-opening announcement and guidelines,

Welcome back to Roots of Wisdom Acupuncture 2020!
First, I want to express how much I sincerely miss everyone! I hope this email finds each of you safe and well. This has been a wild learning curve for me as both a mom and a small business owner. I’m also still recovering from what was most likely Covid and sadly so is my son. It’s been a scary 6 months for my family as it has been for many Michigan families, but I feel like I’ve learned so much about this disease. From not being able to breathe myself, watching my son have horrible “covid toes”, and having two friends hospitalized due to Covid, I’m cautiously re-opening with eyes wide open. I am almost certain this disease made it way to Michigan well before we realized it. I had several patients this year with pneumonia and have never seen that in my nearly 20 years of practice. I feel very concerned for everyones safety as I slowly begin to re-open. My apologies for the vey dry email that will follow, but I want to outline all the details for you, and your loved ones. This way we can be a team that works together to keep Roots of Wisdom a safe and healing space. I want to emphasis that while I am scared because I experienced some mild suffering that I do not wish on anyone else, I’m using the following protocols out of compassion not fear. When you see me dressed up like an astronaut it is not because I’m scared of you. It is because I love my work, and I took an oath to do no harm. Of course you will be allowed to poke fun because I am going to look ridiculous. So we will laugh together as I attempt to poke you with very tiny needles while squinting from behind a foggy face shield! Thanks to all those willing to come on opening day. LOL! Just kidding, my poor husband will be the first guinea pig. I’ll have it down to a science before I see you. I can’t wait to get started with the “new normal”. Thank you for all your patience, and support as I navigate this new way of practicing.
Starting in August all new patient initial visits will be done on a HIPAA compliant video conference that is available Saturdays only. This uses the service and requires Google Chrome, or Safari for your desktop, or that you install the app. Initial visits are $100 and will be a one hour in-depth consult not including acupuncture. Once you schedule online an email will be sent with a link to follow for your telemedicine conference. Just remember to please download the app ahead of time.
Your second visit will be an in-person follow-up acupuncture session, which is available for limited hours Tuesdays, and Thursdays. All follow up sessions beginning August 2020 will be $65 for all patients due to additional expenses to ensure your safety.
Because of limited availability, it is advisable to pre-book follow-up appointments. As public health conditions improve, more appointment times will become available.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, it is essential for everyone’s safety for you to review the following guidelines for in-person office visits.
When you arrive for your session please remain in your car or sidewalk, and text/call 414-403-0150. This cell number will be posted on the outside door as well. I will be with you shortly after you text, or call. Please DO NOT KNOCK ON THE DOOR as it will disrupt treatments in session. I may be running behind schedule, so please wait patiently while I work to get back to you. If I’m running more than 15 minutes behind schedule I will text you to let you know. Your time is important to me.
For your safety, there is no waiting in the lobby. Please arrive for your appointment alone, no guests are allowed at this time. The door will be locked.
Tightly fitting masks are required for service, and is the law. While some people may have medical reasons to not wear masks, I will not be able to accommodate those patients at this time since social distancing is not an option in my profession. Masks must be worn to cover the nose and mouth. One should see the mask moving upon inhaling and exhaling to know the fit is correct. Surgical masks are preferred to cloth masks since studies have shown they are more effective to prevent transmission. However, you may wear a cloth mask. If it is not tightly fitting I may supply you with a surgical mask if available otherwise your appointment may need to be rescheduled. It is my recommendation that you also wear safety googles, or a face shield in any public space. They offer an enormous amount of protection. It would be very doable to wear a face shield while lying face up for acupuncture.
Temperature measurements and following AMA recommended screening questions will be done at each visit,
  1. Have you or anyone in your household had the following symptoms in the past 21 days – sore throat, cough, chills, body aches for unknown reasons, shortness of breath, loss of smell, loss of taste, fever at or greater than 100 degrees fahrenheit?
  2. Have you or anyone in your household been under quarantine for coronavirus like symptoms?
  3. Have you or anyone in your household been tested for COVID-19? If yes and positive for COVID, have you been re-tested with negative results? If yes, what is the current health status?
  4. Have you or anyone in your household visited or received treatment at any hospital, nursing home, or long term care facility in the past 30 days?
  5. Have you or anyone in your household travelled outside the US in the past 30 days?
  6. Have you or anyone in your household travelled outside the state of Michigan in the past 21 days?
  7. Have you or anyone in your household traveled on a cruise ship in the past 21 days?
  8. Are you or anyone in your household an actively working health care provider or emergency healthcare responder?
  9.  Have you or anyone in your household cared for an individual who is in quarantine or is presumptive positive or has tested positive for COVID-19?
  10. Do you any reason to believe you or anyone in your household has been exposed to or acquired COVID-19?
  11. To the best of your knowledge have you been in close proximity to any individual who tested positive for COVID-19?
At this time if you answer yes to any of the above questions you will need a medical exam, and doctors note stating you are safe to continue acupuncture and that you do no pose a risk to other patients in my practice. Which, as long as you are wearing a mask and have appropriately quarantined for the usual 14 days, I would think most doctors would approve your sessions. There will be no charge for canceled visits at this time.
It is important that because acupuncture and its modalities involve maintained touch in close physical proximity over an extended period of time, there may be an elevated risk of disease transmission, including COVID19. All patients will be required to sign a one time consent to treat – voluntarily agreeing to assume these risks and release and hold harmless the practitioner and business from any claims related thereto. All patients will also agree to contact me if they develop Covid symptoms or test positive for Covid, and have visited Roots of Wisdom within 30 days. Your privacy will always be protected, but knowing I’ve been exposed could save lives.
Following screening and check in, patients will be asked to wash their hands before entering the treatment room. It is not required, but recommended that you bring a clean plastic bag to keep your purse and clothing in during a session. Please do not bring in any items that are unnecessary. Please hang all items on hooks provided, except shoes and do not put any personal items on the floor. Please pay with only credit card at this time. No cash please.
For your safety, there will no longer be linens that are not disposable. You may bring your own clean sheets and blanket if you prefer that to paper. Every room will have a space heater for your comfort since blankets will not be provided.
Every treatment room will be disinfected using both an all natural EPA approved disinfectant cleaner proven to be effective against COVID-19. The product being used is called Force of Nature, please feel free to google it. It’s so cool! Following an initial cleaning each room will then be disinfected with a hospital grade 95 watt low ozone UVC lamp. All treatment rooms will be empty for at least 60 minutes between each session (30 minutes is the required time). Do to all the additional cleaning patients will need to leave following their session as quickly as possible. No more naps and mediating for you guys until this virus is more under control. Sorry!
The public bathroom space will also be maintained with the same level of care and will be cleaned four times a day.
In order to maintain healthy air quality every room will have its own medical grade true Hepa (H13) air filter. Each air filter cleans a 500 sqft space. Treatment rooms are only about 100 sqft. The lobby will also have one of these units. Windows will be open whenever possible.
Unfortunately, due to shortage of supplies, I can no longer get my disinfectant for cups and gua-sha. Patients will need to bring in their own personal cupping set, or gua-sha spoon to be used during the session. These items can be safely washed with soap and water when only used on one person. Please wash them following every session and bring them in clean. If you do not purchase your own set you will not receive cupping, or gua sha, however, we can do more acupressure instead. Acupressure, cupping and gua sha will remain an essential part of Roots of Wisdom’s sessions. At this time face and sinus acupressure and acupuncture will not be practiced. However, patients can still enjoy head, neck and shoulder massage. If patients feel that is too risky foot reflexology can be done as an alternative option. Also foot reflexology may be the only option if head, neck and shoulder acupressure becomes too risky. Session will remain 90 minutes long from check in to check out. I will still spend 30-40 minutes of one on one time with each patient before allowing you to rest with needles. MASKS MUST REMAIN ON AT ALL TIMES EVEN ONCE I LEAVE THE ROOM. Anyone removing masks will be asked to not reschedule until masks are no longer legally required by law.
Purchase cups here (Please do not buy plastic cupping sets. Glass only.),
Please do not buy plastic cupping sets. Glass only.
For ease of transporting cupping sets I recommend trying a portable toolbox.

I truly care about compassionate healthcare and take my time to evaluate each individual’s needs. Everyday we feel rushed at work and at home! Unlike many other clinics, I take pride in slowing down and offering a quality service. Check out my 5 star ratings on Google, Yelp and Facebook!”

~Jennifer Flynn, MSOM, Dip. O.M. (NCCAOM), R.Ac

“I have been going to Jennifer for about two years now. Initially, I began my treatments to help with anxiety, however it has helped far more than just that. After years of suffering from chronic digestive issues and seeking treatment from Western Medicine with no answers, I am finally free! Jennifer’s peaceful, kind, and genuine personality made me feel at ease from the beginning, even while discussing health issues that can feel embarrassing to talk to doctors about. I love how she actually listens and addresses these concerns by explaining WHY my body is reacting a certain way, rather than just how to band-aid and give it a quick fix. To accompany my treatments, I also take the Chinese herbs she sells in her office as a preventive measure for my digestive issues. This is the best I’ve ever felt! If you are curious to try acupuncture and dip your toes into the world of Eastern Medicine or if you’re just looking for a place to relax and de-stress, I highly recommend visiting Roots of Wisdom. I have referred many friends and my entire family benefits from Jennifer’s treatments.”

~D.H. Westland, MI

“Jennifer is amazing!!! I fractured my back 5 years ago and have had chronic back pain since. I’ve done physical therapy, yoga, massage, meds, chiropractic, strength training etc with minimal relief. She has done cupping and acupuncture and I had relief almost immediately!! Best decision I’ve made!”

~S.V. Ann Arbor, MI

“I appreciate Jennifer’s expertise, kindness and skills so much. I came to her at a very low point in my life after spending a night in the ICU. I knew I had to figure things out on both a western and eastern plane. She absolutely made me whole again. I am grateful beyond belief for the care. I am healthy, less stressed and so much better than I was when I first started acupuncture. Thank you!”

~D.M. Plymouth, Mi

“When I decided to try Acupuncture, I was suffering from terrible lower back pain – between my M.D. and Medicare, I was not getting the treatment I needed. Physical therapy made my pain worse. I hoped to get relief from at least some of the pain, but I admit that I was a bit skeptical at first about Acupuncture because I didn’t understand how it worked. Jennifer’s treatments helped me a great deal, and she also answered all of my questions – and then some – about how Acupuncture works. It made perfect sense to me, because I already knew that nerves control muscles, and if those muscles are causing your pain, then treating the nerves could be the answer. I just didn’t realize that Acupuncture could be used to heal nerves. I would not hesitate recommending Jennifer to anyone who is searching for an answer to their pain. Non-invasive treatments are always safer than the surgical alternatives, and you owe it to yourself to try this procedure.”

~D.F. Plymouth, MI

“As a metastatic breast cancer patient, I feel relieved and grateful to be under Jennifer Flynn’s care. She was able to immediately stop my nausea, vomiting and distress from Chemo treatments. Quite Amazing!
I truly believe that she is a catalyst for outstanding scan results. Continuing my healing process with weekly sessions.
Thank you, Jennifer!”

~J.S. Farmington Hills, Michigan

~K.G. Canton, MI

“After 2 weeks of unending neck/shoulder/arm pain my pain level went from an 8 to a 2 after the first treatment…..and am now off all meds!

Jennifer is extremely professional and knowledgeable and her treatments are very helpful and relaxing. I would HIGHLY recommend Jennifer Flynn…..she will exceed your expectations!”

~M.C. Plymouth, MI

“Relaxing atmosphere. Jennifer is very knowledgeable and interested in your overall well-being. I’ve been seeing Jennifer for 5 months and feel the best I’ve felt in years…I would not go any where else – best experience I’ve ever had with acupuncture!”

~J.S. Canton, MI

“I have tried so many things to help with my hip and back pain—steroid shots, PT, chiropractic and nothing has given me the relief and relaxation like this acupuncture. Have referred many to Jennifer because it has worked!”
